Find a CLEP Test Center

You have three options. Here's how each works and how to pick.

1. Physical test center

~1,800 centers in the US. Usually a college or testing facility. $95 CLEP fee + $15-35 center administration fee.

2. CLEP online (at home, proctored)

Launched 2020, permanent since 2021. $115 total ($95 exam + $20 proctoring). Same score, same credit. Requires a working webcam, mic, quiet private room.

3. Military — DANTES funded

Active-duty, Guard, Reserve, and spouses (many bases) get CLEP fully funded through DANTES. Register through your base education office.

Which should you pick?

  • Pick home if you have a private room, a decent webcam, and you're comfortable with tech hassle. Saves travel time.
  • Pick a test center if your home has interruptions (roommates, kids, pets), your internet is flaky, or you need the psychological boost of a formal test environment.
  • Pick DANTES if you're eligible — it's free and you can sit at your base.
