  • Colonial (1600s-1763): Jamestown, Puritans, mercantilism, colonial self-government.
  • Revolution (1763-1783): taxation without representation, Declaration of Independence (1776), Yorktown.
  • New nation (1783-1815): Articles → Constitution (1787), Bill of Rights, Federalists vs Anti-Federalists.
  • Expansion & reform (1815-1860): Louisiana Purchase, Manifest Destiny, abolition, women's rights (Seneca Falls).
  • Civil War & Reconstruction (1861-1877): slavery/sectionalism, Emancipation Proclamation, 13th-15th Amendments.

  • Declaration of Independence: natural rights, grievances against the king.
  • Constitution + Federalist Papers: separation of powers, ratification debate.
  • Civil War causes: slavery, states' rights, sectional economics, failed compromises (Missouri, 1850).
